Industrial Electrical Services

Power, distribution, lighting and electrical testing for industrial sites across the South East

We carry out electrical work for factories, warehouses, workshops, depots and other industrial sites across the South East.

Our work includes main intake panels, power distribution, submains and distribution boards, supplies for plant and machinery, high-bay lighting, EV charging, data cabling and fixed wire testing.

We plan the work around production and site operations, including evenings, weekends and planned shutdowns where required.

Industrial electrical contractors across the South East

We are based in East Sussex and carry out industrial electrical work across Kent, East Sussex, Surrey and the wider South East. We work with site managers, production managers, maintenance and engineering teams, facilities managers, main contractors and consulting engineers.

A lot of our industrial work is carried out on sites that need to remain operational, so we plan installations, isolations and shutdowns around production .

You can see the other types of buildings we work in on our sectors page, or view our full range of electrical services.

Electrical work planned around production

Industrial electrical work often needs to be carried out without disrupting the rest of the site.

Before work starts, we look at what needs to remain operational, which areas can be isolated and when any shutdowns can take place.

For larger distribution work, this can include phased changeovers, temporary supplies or backup generation so important parts of the site can continue to run.

We can also work evenings, weekends and other agreed periods where carrying out the work during normal production hours is not practical. The aim is to give you a clear programme before work starts, with any planned disruption agreed in advance.

Power distribution designed for the site you have now

Industrial sites often change over time as machinery, production areas and electrical loads are added.

We assess the existing supply and distribution before designing new work, including the load already being used and any additional capacity you may need.

Where distribution boards are full, equipment is obsolete or the existing supply can no longer support the site, we can design and install the necessary upgrades.

We also make sure circuits, boards and distribution are clearly labelled and documented at handover, making future maintenance and isolation easier for the people looking after the site.

Keeping critical areas powered during electrical work

Where maintaining power is important, we plan the changeover before installation begins.

This can include temporary supplies, generators or completing the work in stages so individual areas are taken offline separately.

One example of this approach was a £310,000 main intake panel replacement at a university laboratory in Chichester. We completed the changeover in three days using backup generators, allowing the laboratories to remain powered throughout the project.

While this was a university laboratory rather than an industrial site, the same planning is used where factories, warehouses and other operational buildings cannot simply be switched off.

Industrial electrical services

Where building work is needed around an electrical installation, we can manage this through subcontractors we know while remaining responsible for the electrical design, installation and connections.

For PA, audio visual and related systems, we work alongside our sister company, OBAV. Our wider installation work is covered under commercial electrical installations.

What this covers
01
Main intake panels and power distribution
We design and install main intake panels and power distribution for larger industrial buildings. This includes LV switchgear, submains and distribution boards, designed around the existing load and any additional capacity the site needs.
02
Submains and distribution boards
We install new submains and distribution boards where existing equipment is full, outdated or no longer suitable for the electrical load. Where the site needs to remain operational, we plan the work in stages and agree any necessary isolations in advance.
03
Electrical supplies for plant and machinery
We install electrical supplies for new and existing plant and machinery, including submains, local distribution, isolators and final electrical connections. We coordinate with your engineering team, machinery supplier or installer where other specialist connections or controls are involved.
04
Containment
We install cable tray, basket, trunking and conduit for power and data. We plan the containment around the existing site and, where possible, allow room for future additions so new cabling can be installed more easily later.
05
Industrial and warehouse lighting
We install lighting for factories, production areas, workshops and warehouses, including high-bay lighting. We also carry out LED lighting upgrades, starting with a free survey to look at existing light levels, energy use and the potential saving. On most commercial sites, LED upgrades pay for themselves through energy savings within five years.
06
EICRs and fixed wire testing
We carry out EICRs, inspection and fixed wire testing on industrial sites. We plan testing around production and agree any required isolations before work starts. Our reports clearly explain what has been found, what needs attention and what can be included in a longer-term maintenance programme.
07
EV charging, data and electric heating
We design and install EV charging for fleet vehicles, staff and visitors, based on the electrical capacity available on site. We also provide data and networking cabling for offices, equipment and connected systems. Where electric or radiant heating is suitable for part of the building, see our electric heating service.

Experienced industrial electrical contractors

We are an NICEIC Approved Contractor and SafeContractor accredited. Our engineers are DBS checked and we have been trading since 2008.

We are used to working on sites where access, safety procedures and production requirements need to be agreed before electrical work starts.

We can provide the relevant risk assessments, method statements and electrical documentation required for the project, with installations inspected, tested and certified at handover.

Why industrial clients choose Lake Electrical

We are a family-run, owner-led business and we stay involved in the work. From the initial site survey through to installation and handover, you can speak directly to someone in our team who knows the project.

We understand that downtime has a cost. We therefore look at the existing installation, agree what can and cannot be switched off and plan the electrical work around the way your site operates. We have a team of experienced engineers and wherever possible you will deal with the same people throughout the work.

Where further work is needed, we explain it at the start so you can plan the programme and budget before installation begins.

Industrial electrical FAQs

Can you carry out electrical work without stopping production?

In many cases, yes.

We start by looking at what needs to remain operational and which parts of the installation can be isolated separately.

We can then plan the work in stages and use agreed shutdown periods, temporary supplies or backup generation where appropriate.

If part of the site does need to be switched off, we agree the timing with you before the work starts.

Can a panel changeover be carried out using temporary power or generators?

Yes, where the installation and load allow it.

For larger projects, temporary supplies or generators can be used to keep important areas powered while the existing electrical equipment is replaced.

We plan the load, switching and changeover sequence before the work begins so everyone knows how the site will operate during the project.

On our Chichester university laboratory project, backup generators kept the laboratories powered while a £310,000 main intake panel was changed over three days.

How often does an industrial site need fixed wire testing?

The appropriate inspection interval depends on the type of installation, its condition, the environment and how the electrical equipment is used.

Industrial sites can require more frequent inspection than some other commercial buildings, particularly where equipment is exposed to heavy use, vibration, dust, moisture or other demanding conditions.

The recommended date for the next periodic inspection should be recorded on the EICR.

We can review your existing reports and help plan testing around production and maintenance schedules.

Do you visit the site before providing a quotation?

Yes, for larger industrial electrical work.

Where a project involves the incoming supply, distribution, machinery connections or planned shutdowns, we need to understand the existing installation and how the site operates before we price it.

We then provide a quotation based on the full electrical scope, with separate items shown clearly where required.
