Lake Electrical Limited delivered a £1.2 million programme of school LED lighting upgrades across 12 education sites – eleven schools and one college. Existing lights were replaced throughout with modern, energy-efficient LED lighting supplied by Kosnic, reducing energy consumption, improving the quality of light in the buildings and lowering ongoing maintenance across the estate.
The programme ran during term time. All 12 sites remained fully operational throughout the works, with no school or college closing and no teaching areas taken out of use during normal operating hours.
The challenge: upgrading 12 live sites during term time
A £1.2 million programme of electrical works across an estate normally means buildings coming out of use. This one had to run during term time, without interrupting teaching at any of the 12 sites.
Working across 12 individual sites also meant coordinating engineers, materials, deliveries and access, alongside the individual requirements of each school and college.
The estate required an approach that would:
- Replace the existing lighting with energy-efficient LED throughout
- Reduce energy consumption and ongoing maintenance across every site
- Improve the quality of light in teaching and circulation areas
- Keep all 12 sites fully operational during term time
- Return every building to safe, usable condition before the next school day
The solution: school LED lighting upgrades delivered on night shifts
The works were programmed around teaching hours rather than the other way round.
Our teams worked out of hours on night shifts, carrying out the LED lighting upgrades while the buildings were closed. At the end of every shift, working areas were cleared, systems were checked, and each site was returned to a safe and operational condition, ready for pupils, students and staff the following morning.
This approach allowed a significant £1.2 million programme to progress efficiently without requiring the schools or college to close, and without taking teaching areas out of use during the day.

The works were programmed and managed across the wider estate to maintain progress while accommodating each school and college’s operational requirements. That covered the scheduling of engineers, the sequencing of materials and deliveries, and access to each building for every shift.
