St Michael’s, Chart Sutton
Lake Electrical Limited has supported St Michael’s Church, Chart Sutton with electrical works for a number of years, building a strong understanding of both the building and the practical needs of an operational place of worship. After completing a full rewire and lighting upgrade in 2019, we were pleased to return to install heated pew cushions, providing an effective and discreet way to improve comfort for the congregation.
Heating churches can be challenging. Large internal volumes, high ceilings and intermittent use often make traditional heating systems inefficient and expensive to run. St Michael’s Church required a solution that would deliver comfort during services without unnecessary energy use or permanent alterations to historic pews.

Heated pew cushions offer a targeted approach to church heating. Rather than attempting to warm the entire building, they provide gentle heat directly to the person using the space. This results in faster warmth, reduced running costs and a noticeable improvement in comfort, particularly during colder months.
At St Michael’s Church, the cushions were carefully integrated with the existing electrical infrastructure, allowing for flexible use depending on service size and seating layout. The cushions remain visually unobtrusive and can be used selectively, ensuring energy is only used where needed.
The installation was carried out with minimal disruption to church activities. Particular care was taken to ensure the church remained safe, tidy and fully operational for services, with all electrics tested and ready for use.
This project reflects Lake Electrical’s experience delivering practical, sympathetic electrical solutions for places of worship across Kent and the South East, supporting comfort, usability and long-term sustainability.
