Electrical Services for Churches and Place of Worship

Lake Electrical provides specialist electrical services for churches and places of worship across the south east, including Kent, Sussex, Surrey and London. We work closely with church wardens, trustees, diocesan officers and facilities managers to deliver safe, compliant and heritage-sensitive electrical solutions tailored to the unique needs of religious buildings.

Church EICRs and Electrical Compliance

All projects are planned with care to protect historic fabric, minimise disruption to worship and events, and ensure compliance with current regulatory, insurance and conservation standards.

We carry out Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs) in line with BS 7671:2018+A2:2022, providing structured inspection and testing of fixed wiring systems, distribution boards, circuit protection devices, earthing and bonding arrangements, and associated electrical accessories.

Testing is performed using calibrated instruments, and all findings are risk-coded to identify immediate safety issues (Code C1), potentially dangerous conditions (Code C2), or areas requiring further investigation (FI). Following inspection, we issue formal NICEIC-certified documentation to support compliance with insurance and diocesan safety requirements, whilst even more robust care will be taken by our staff when providing electrical services in churches and places of worship.

Remedial Works and Planned Maintenance

Where inspections identify issues, we provide certified remedial works including distribution board replacements or upgrades, installation of appropriate RCD or RCBO protection, correction of overloaded or incorrectly rated circuits, improvements to earthing and bonding systems, and removal of redundant or non-compliant wiring.

We also offer planned electrical maintenance programmes tailored for churches. These include periodic inspections, emergency lighting testing in accordance with BS 5266, and system documentation updates. This proactive approach helps maintain compliance and reduces the risk of unexpected electrical failures.

Standards, Regulations and Certification

We work to all relevant regulatory and safety standards, including BS 7671:2018+A2:2022 (IET Wiring Regulations), the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, and the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. These require electrical systems to be maintained in a condition that prevents danger to staff, volunteers, visitors and congregation members.

All work is completed to NICEIC certification standards, confirming that installations are inspected, tested and certified by qualified electricians. Our services also support compliance with insurance policies and diocesan requirements, particularly for heritage and listed properties.
